Challenger for the title of World Chess Champion
The tournament featured 16 of the strongest chess players in the World: eight in the Open and eight in the Women’s event. They were engaged in a double round-robin tournament spanning 14 rounds.
The winner of the Open section GM Gukesh Dommaraju will challenge the GM Ding Liren while the winner of the Women’s tournament GMW Tan Zhongyi will take on GM Ju Wenjun.
This event is a game-changer in Canadian chess, providing significant motivation and inspiration for players of all ages. Furthermore, the fact that the women’s event is held at the same time and place as the men’s Open tournament grants spectators the rare opportunity to witness top-level competition firsthand.
The increased visibility and recognition of female chess players in such a prestigious event will have a significant impact on inspiring and motivating young girls to start playing chess and pursuing their passion for the game.
